Smith edges out Spary for top prize

Oldham GC Gems Singles Stableford winner John Smith
GOLF: The latest Oldham GC Gems Singles Stableford was very close with a card play-off on 21 going in favour of John Smith, from Brian Spary.
Just a point behind were Mike McCafferty, Jack Roberts and Stuart Wagstaffe, and Brian Spary was the ‘Twos’ winner.
A BB Stableford at Saddleworth had Andrew Stott and Alan Entwistle in charge with 52 from Darren Bidwell and Harry Rushworth, who won a cpo on 50 from Lee Spratt and John Nuttall.
A Pro’s BB Medal at Saddleworth had Nick Marner and Steve Baron bosiing division one with 58 by a shot from Dave and Steve Pullen.
Harry Rushworth and John Wozniak led in division two with an incredible 53, three clear of Stuart Hanson and Mark Roberts.
A BB Stableford at Ashton was very close and won by A Kiami and S Smyth after a cpo on 40 with R Payne and S Willis and G Kenyon and B Preece, with I McKean and D Jones, N Hampson and R Forrest and L and J Lewis also in good form.
The Sunday Stableford at Ashton had Glynn Taylor topping division one with 38, from Antony Lambert and Bill Croston, both 36.
In division two, Alex Montgomery led in with 42, one more than Ronnie Cavanagh, and Ian Chadwick was the star of the day leading in division three with 43.
The third Winter League Stableford at Brookdale had Jonathan Bassey top of division one with 39, from Darren McGhee 38 and Craig Evans 37.
It needed a cpo on 38 to see David Callaghan win from Mark Akin, two more than Don Kelly, Mark Whelan and FJ Oakland.
It was also close in division three with Robert Callear winning a cpo on 40 from Connor Cocker, one more than Greg Hickling and DB Taylor.
