The Winter League is a very competitive event throughout the winter season at Saddleworth Golf Club, and the aggregate leader throughout the competition has the honour of wearing the Yellow Jersey.
The competition is closely regulated by Stamford professional Mark Smith and he said: “Matt Stuart held his nerve in the opening round of Winter League to claim the rights to the Yellow Jersey.
"Matt carded 44 points to claim pole position from Matt Merson on 43 points.”
Matt added: "The conditions were amazing for the time of the year, not a breath of wind and wall to wall sunshine.
“I think I might have a bit of sun tan - either that or high blood pressure from posting a good score!"
A BB Stableford at Saddleworth was tight with a cpo on 44 going in favour of R Devy and L Thompson, from A Thornton and N Broomhead and M Dunning and S Chamberlain.
A Mixed Team Xmas Fayre Stableford at Saddleworth saw the fab four of J Wozniak, N Evans, A Stringer and H Rushworth stocking up their festive larder with 92, one more than B, D and S Pullen and D Cavallino.
T Potts, M Orme, E Mills and G Simpson topped four pairs on 89.
