Plans announced to improve water quality in Oldham

Residents are being invited to find out more about the scheme at a drop-in event on January 20

United Utilities has announced plans to improve water quality in Plumpton Clough and the River Irk in Oldham. 

The North West’s water company is going to be investing £5m on a scheme that will increase the sewer capacity in the town and reduce the number of times that a storm overflow operates.

The project will upgrade the sewer network on Sheepfoot Lane, so that the storm overflow operates less than 10 times per year. 

The work is set to start in spring 2025 and take around 12 months to complete.

As a result of the works, there will be a road closure along Sheepfoot Lane with diversions put in place in the surrounding area. 

The company is working with Oldham Council, TFGM, and Oldham Athletic Football Club to minimise disruption. 

Residents are being invited to find out more about the scheme at a drop-in event on January 20, 2025 at Oldham Event Centre, Oldham Athletic Football Club, off Hilbre Avenue, OL2 5BL between 2pm and 7pm.
