Children develop their joy of reading at Crompton Library

Date published: 25 November 2024

Year 4 children from St Joseph's primary school in Shaw enjoyed a morning of reading and learning at Crompton Library.

The trip aimed to foster a love for books and reading.

The children received a very warm welcome from the library staff.

They were divided into groups for various activities, including a story time session, a guided tour of the library, and an exciting book hunt.

These activities helped the children learn about the library's sections, the Dewey Decimal System and the importance of library etiquette.

The children also enjoyed some quiet reading time and were given the opportunity to select a number of books to take home.

At the end of the visit, a feedback session allowed the children to share their favourite moments and newfound knowledge.

Mr Hill, the class teacher, said: "The visit to Crompton Library has been an invaluable experience for our children.

"It has sparked their interest in reading and provided them with a broader understanding of how a library works.

"The visit was a resounding success, providing the children with an enriching learning experience and a lasting appreciation for books.

"Special thanks to the library staff for arranging this visit for us."
