Staff, students and families at Oasis Academy Oldham in Hollinwood are celebrating after they received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted in their most recent inspection.

The two-day inspection, which took place last month at the school, saw significant improvements, reflecting the academy’s commitment to high standards and ambitious goals for their students in recent years.

The academy, which serves a diverse community, are praised in their most recent Ofsted report for promoting an inclusive environment where pupils embrace cultural and belief differences, which inspectors found contributes to an overall safe and happy school atmosphere.

Furthermore, the report positively addresses the academy’s implementation of carefully tailored programmes for personal, social and health education, which inspectors found effectively builds the knowledge that students need to prepare them well for life in modern Britain.

Staff at the academy place importance on educating their students about their personal safety, managing money and the world of work.

Additionally, many students have opportunities to meaningfully contribute to decision-making processes at school by being elected to leadership positions.

They are also encouraged to develop their interests by becoming involved in a wide range of clubs.

All of these initiatives collectively ensure that students are well-equipped to enhance their future prospects and prepare for adult life.

Key highlights from the report included:

· “The school has raised its expectations and ambitions for pupils at Oasis Academy Oldham. Pupils have responded positively to the changes made to the school.”

· “The behaviour of pupils is noteworthy. Pupils understand exactly what is expected of them, and they value the rewards they receive for their efforts.”

· “The school is aspirational for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). A growing number of pupils are choosing to study the English Baccalaureate suite of subjects in KS4.”

· “Leaders, including trustees, have a secure understanding of the school’s priorities and they provide appropriate challenge and support. Staff feel well supported with their workload.”

· “The school has built a stable, well-trained body of staff. Staff implement the curriculum increasingly well. In most subjects, the consistent, high-quality delivery of the curriculum has resulted in strong achievement for pupils.”

· “The school has prioritised reading. Gaps in pupils’ reading knowledge are swiftly identified and pupils are provided with the precise support that they need to become confident and fluent readers. There is a strong culture of reading throughout the school.”

Another key finding from the inspection found that staff implement the updated behaviour system exceptionally well, leading to successful strategies that have improved students’ attendance rates.

Oasis Academy Oldham were praised for working closely with students who find coming to school difficult, providing additional support for their mental health, ensuring that every student feels supported and valued.

Co-Heads of School, Gemma Blackwood and Sam Collins, both commented on the successful inspection.

Miss Blackwood said: “We are incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made as an academy community over the years.

"Our dedicated staff and comprehensive support systems have played a crucial role in creating a positive learning environment for all.”

Mr Collins added: “We are grateful to Ofsted for this positive report which accurately reflects what our staff, students and parents know – we are an academy that cares and is dedicated to supporting our children to achieve their very best.

"A special thank you to all of our teachers and support staff who are committed to developing their practice so that our students can make even greater progress.”
