Kingfisher Learning Trust launches ambitious project with Oldham RLFC

Pupils from Medlock Valley Primary School are getting into rugby league!
Kingfisher Learning Trust, which operates six schools across Oldham, has launched its own educational initiative to get children involved with Oldham RLFC's recently-announced massive community initiative, and in doing so, create some special memories.
Kingfisher Learning Trust was founded in 2016 and runs Kingfisher Special School, Halcyon Way School, Medlock Valley Primary School, Littlemoor Primary School, Blackshaw Lane Primary and Nursery School, and Cromwell High School.
According to their plans, the trust intends to give 400 pupils the opportunity to:
● Perform the Haka alongside former New Zealand international captain Elijah Taylor before an Oldham game
● Learn about the history of indigenous New Zealand and its Māori cultural traditions such as the Haka in education sessions at the club
● Create banners to be presented at the final game of the season, while learning about keeping active and healthy eating
To round off the project, they also plan for the children to attend the final game of the season at Boundary Park.
Should Oldham win the championship, the pupils will be invited onto the pitch to celebrate with the players, and display their banners during the trophy celebration.
The cost for this proposal would come in at £100 per pupil, and with the trust looking to get 400 involved, they are looking to raise £40,000 from local community donations and philanthropic support from companies and businesses.
Michael Unsworth, COO, spoke about the initiative, addressing businesses: “If you’re looking for a good cause to back, and want to make a real difference in our local community, we’d love to hear from you.
"The opportunity to give children an experience they’ll remember for a lifetime doesn’t come round often, and we’re hoping that we can do just that through collaboration with our prestigious local team.”
“We’re accepting any donations, but are especially looking to work with businesses who want to give back to the local community.
"If you choose to support this initiative, we’ll make sure your commitment to our community is shared widely, through our social media and the local press.”
