Latics chiefs proud to offer ongoing support to their neighbours at Maggie's

Latics chiefs are proud to have developed a hugely positive working relationship with local cancer care centre, Maggie’s Oldham.

The Boundary Park club has worked with Maggie’s on a number of initiatives in recent years, but are now looking at other ways to support the centre.

Situated in the grounds of the Royal Oldham Hospital, Latics are pleased to have Maggie’s as neighbours of the football club, with their centre only a short walk from the stadium.

Maggie’s centres provide emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

From help on managing emotions to symptoms, side-effects and also practical issues such as finances, benefits, travel and exercise, the centre provides an invaluable support mechanism during the most challenging periods of people’s lives.

As part of our support for Maggie’s, the club’s most recent Board meeting was held at the centre this week.

The Latics Board spent time with Maggie’s staff and found out more about their work from Trish Morgan, the Centre Head at Maggie’s Oldham.

Latics CEO Darren Royle said: “We’re very proud to be able to call Maggie’s our neighbours and our relationship with the centre is something we want to foster.

“Trish and her team provide huge amounts of support to those who have cancer, particularly with the practical matters that affect the daily lives of people who are suffering and their loves ones.

“The centre is an amazing place which is modern and tranquil, and is run by a brilliant group of staff.

"The support they provide to people during very difficult periods is invaluable.

“We are very keen to grow relationship with local organisations such as Maggie’s.

"It was a very heart-warming experience to be able to hold our Board meeting at the centre this week and we will also be engaging with them further with the first team.”

Ms Morgan said: “It was a real pleasure to host the Oldham Athletic Board meeting here at Maggie’s and have a chance to share more about how we support people with cancer and those that love them.

“We’re so grateful to everyone at the club for all they do to support Maggie’s and we’re excited about the plans we’re making to do more together.

"We couldn’t ask for better neighbours!”
