The legendary Oldham Tinkers are heading back to town

Date published: 14 December 2022

Oldham’s legendary sons will soon be back in town for a great evening of music and mirth.

The Oldham Tinkers will be playing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham on Friday, February 24, 2023 (at 7.30pm) as part of the Mayor of Oldham’s charity events, which this year supports North West Air Ambulance, Broughton House Veterans, Pennine Pen Animal Rescue, Oldham Young Carers, Oldham Cancer Support, Oldham Bereavement and the Oldham Band (Lees).

Mayor of Oldham Cllr Elaine Garry said: “We were talking at a recent meeting about who would be a huge draw for a concert and the Oldham Tinkers were the obvious choice.

"This will be their first major performance in the town for some time, which is bound to be popular with their legions of fans."

It was almost 60 years ago that a chance meeting between John Howarth and the brothers Larry and Gerry Kearns in the Highfield and Park pub in Waterloo Street, Oldham, saw the beginning of years of fun and music for the Oldham Tinkers.

They even performed for the Queen and Prince Philip.

The band has recently released their latest recording “A Lancashire Grace” with songs celebrating the spirit of the land, people and customs.

If you’re looking for a last minute Christmas gift for folk music lovers, tickets for the February concert are now on sale priced £20 from the Queen Elizabeth Hall box office on 0161 770 4083.

Rest assured - it’ll be a reet gud neet!
