Oldham Hulme Grammar School's Year 11 students are celebrating their 'superb' GCSE results this morning (Thursday).
Over the last three academic years they have endured considerable disruption caused by the COVID 19 pandemic, but today their dedication, resilience and patience has been rewarded with results they can be very proud of.
This summer has seen a return to traditional examinations and Hulme's pupils have coped very well with this.
Hulme students achieved a 93% pass rate, with over half (53%) of their grades being 9-7.
A total of 17% of grades were at grade 9.
Hulme's top performer was Umama Fahad, who achieved the remarkable feat of being awarded 10 x grade 9s.
A further 10 Hulme pupils achieved at least 6 x grade 9s.
They included Fatima Butt, Jack Cook, Armaan Irfan, Alex Mairs, Cara McBrien, Oliver Patrick, Prem Raghvani, Cassie Reece, Zahra Rushnaiwala and Joshua Simumba.
In total, 44% of the cohort achieved at least 7 x grade 7’s.
However, School Principal Craig Mairs is proud of all of the students across the ability range, as there was many individual success stories.
Mr Mairs said: “I am delighted for our Year 11 pupils.
"The last three years have caused considerable anxiety and uncertainty for young people with circumstances completely beyond their control.
"What they could control was their response to those circumstances, and I am very proud of how they have done this.
"They can now look forward to starting their A Level courses and we wish them every continued success.
"I would also like to pay tribute to our very dedicated and skilled staff team who have supported our pupils throughout this time and always did their best for their students.
"These results are also a testament to their commitment.”
