High fives for marathon man Steve

Date published: 17 May 2022

Marathon runner and fund-raiser extraordinaire Steve Hill MBE is set to break a prestigious record in the next few weeks.

Hero adventurer Steve, the deputy head teacher at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School in Shaw, is set to become the first person to ever run FIVE Uganda Marathons.

Steve said: "I fly out from Manchester on May 28th and land in Entebbe early on the 29th.

"I’ll then travel across the Equator to Masaka where I’ll be spending the week.

"Throughout the week I’ll be getting involved in a number of charity projects.

"I’ll be visiting the Smile orphanage, getting in the Eco Brix recycling projects and also spending time in a number of schools which will include helping to organise a fun sports day for the children there - and finally I’ll be visiting the Eunice Medical Centre on Kalangala Island on Lake Victoria where I’ll be helping to build and extension to the Clinic.

"Before flying out to Uganda I will be collecting old running trainer, football kits and donated items of school stationary to take with me for the children and young people at the schools I’ll be visiting whilst there.

"My wonderful class will also be writing postcards / messages for me to take with me to give to the children in the schools I’ll be visiting.

"I'll also have the opportunity to visit the projects that Team Hill Charitable Trust have been funding and supporting since my last visit in 2019.

"On Saturday, June 4th I will then take on the Uganda Marathon - a tough 26.2 miles course around the villages of Masaka - to help raise funds for these projects that Team Hill are supporting.

"This will be my fifth Uganda Marathon.

"I’m really looking forward to getting out there again and meeting up with the brilliant Uganda Marathon Team, along with the amazing Dr James who founded both the Jomain Midland Academy Nursery and Primary School along with the Eunice Medical Centre on Kalangala Island."

"A huge thankyou, as always, to everyone who has supported me so far," added Steve.

He has taken on some jaw-dropping challenges over the last 13 years and managed to raise over £100,000 for various charities along the way.
