Donation to Home-Start HOST from Swansway VW Oldham

Local family support charity Home-Start HOST have received a donation of Slow Cookers from family-owned and run Swansway Motor Group, to help relieve the stress of families dealing with the cost-of-living crisis.

Home-Start HOST, which supports families across Oldham, Stockport, Tameside and Bolton, forms part of Greater Manchester’s leading family support charities, (with other Home-Starts covering Manchester, Rochdale, Bury, Trafford, Salford and Wigan).

Home-Start recruits and trains local volunteers to visit families in their own homes, offering emotional and practical support. Confidential and non-judgmental help is offered to families for a range of reasons, including poverty, isolation, domestic abuse, illness and disability and poor mental health.

A number of families who receive practical and emotional support from the Oldham, Stockport, Tameside and Bolton branch, were given the slow cookers as they are more economical than conventional ovens, which will allow these families, (who are struggling financially), to have a hot meal, (these are parents and children who may otherwise go without).

Recognising that the increase in the cost of living has affected many people, Swansway Motor Group, whose VW dealership is in Oldham, worked closely with Home-Start HOST to donate items that were in desperate need of.

It was important to both Home-Start HOST and Swansway Motor Group that the donations made not only spread joy to families but supported them in the best way that they could.

Sarah Cook, from HOST commented; “We are so grateful to Swansway Motor Group for their continued support, their donation of Slow Cookers was greatly appreciated by our team and will go towards helping the families we support. Their refreshed approach of asking what we were in need of shows a desire to give back to the community”

Swansway Motor Group Director David Smyth added: “We are dedicated to giving back to the communities that have continued to support us. We all know that this year, the need for family support has never been higher and we are delighted to be able to donate items that would help our chosen charities in their mission to support children and families in need. It’s our gift from the Swansway families to those families in need. And hopefully, if there are other businesses that are in a position to do so, they will be encouraged to do the same.”
