A yoga teacher from Oldham is hoping to raise funds for the response to the Ukraine crisis this weekend in Royton.
Gemma Unsworth, who runs classes across the borough has organised a 'Yoga-thon' on Sunday at Tandle Hill Country Park.
Enthusiasts will be challenged to perform 108 sun salutations at the event, though Gemma says beginners are welcome.
"Nobody should feel pressured to complete all 108 sun salutations. You could join me for one or ten, or however many you feel you can manage."
"As I always say in my classes, make sure you listen to your body, and take breaks as and when necessary."
It's recommended you bring along your own drinks, and mat, and wear comfortable clothing.
Gemma says she was driven to organise the event after seeing events in Ukraine unfold on television.
"When I saw the events unfurling in Ukraine, I really felt for those innocents, suffering at the hands of others. I felt powerless; I couldn't provide medical care as I'm not qualified, and I can't provide a huge amount of financial aid on my own.
"However, it is my true belief that everyone has some talent or skill that can be used to help others. It just takes some creative thought to find a way to do this.
"Something I can do is yoga, and a lot of other people enjoy yoga too. I’ve always enjoyed a challenge, so it occurred to me that I could set up a fundraiser, encompassing a yoga challenge for myself and anyone who wishes to join me, in order to raise financial support to help those suffering in Ukraine."
Whilst yoga enthusiasts are welcome on the day, donations are also being taken online on Gemma's JustGiving page.
The funds raised will be shared between Action Aid and the DEC to help scale up their response, help families to stay warm and protect women and girls.
Gemma says she's grateful for any involvement: "I would love support in any way possible, whether this is via donation, or by joining me and raising your own sponsors, all support is appreciated."
The yoga-thon takes place this Sunday 20 March from 10am at Tandle Hill in Royton. You can contact Gemma at gotoyoga@hotmail.com or call 07982 634973.
