Steve Hill MBE, perhaps Oldham's greatest adventurer, has revealed he's got a new book coming out about his expeditions and inspiring his school pupils, which has been endorsed by British adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
The deputy head at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School, has taken on some jaw dropping challenges over the last 13 years and managed to raise over £100,000 for various charities along the way. But he found writing a book a challenge of a different kind.
Steve, from Shaw says; "The book is called 'What's Next Sir? How one teacher's mission to inspire his pupils, taught him so much more in return'.
"I had the idea after one person listened to a talk I was giving as an ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, who asked me 'What's next Sir? When are you writing a book?
"I'd also been asked to write a book by different people before that but never had time.
"When the pandemic hit, I found I had a bit more time, so I started it during March 2020, whilst we were in lockdown and it has been an adventure of a different kind."
The book is a story to inspire other people about self belief, having big dreams, motivation and never giving up.
It covers details of Steve's life, from childhood to being awarded an MBE by HRH The Queen.
Over the years Steve has taken on some extremely tough challenges around the globe; climbing some of the world's tallest mountains, run the North Pole marathon, completed The Great Norse Run in Iceland - 9 marathons in 9 days, run through the Amazon jungle and trekked through the Sahara, amongst other things.
He's now a motivational speaker and built his own charity in 2019, which continues to raise money, through Team Hill Charitable Trust.
Steve told us: "When following your dreams it's important to ban the word 'can't' - it's I can and I will.
"We're all entitled to big dreams, no matter where you're from and what your background is.
"Don't listen to the doubters, or people who say who do you think you are? You shouldn't avoid failure either, that's when you learn the most.
"My message is to just get out there and keep moving forward".
One of Steve's favourite quotes, he read in a village in Uganda, when he was helping with charity work which says; "Some people are so poor, all they have is money.
"I teach the children at my school that life is much more than about financial success and they should broaden their horizons.
"I intend to go on inspiring school pupils and others, helping them to reach their goals and dreams and challenging myself along the way."
Steve's book is out on June 28, 2022 and he intends to do a book launch a few days before hand. The Oldham Evening Chronicle will keep you updated.
