Reykjavik beckons for hero Steve’s next big challenge

Oldham marathon man Steve Hill is flying to Reykjavik in Iceland next Monday for his next big Challenge - The Great Norse Run.
He will be running nine marathons in nine blistering days across the land of fire and ice from the North to the South of Iceland raising money for the Team Hill Charitable Trust.
Steve, St Joseph's primary school's deputy head teacher, said: “I was attracted to this challenge by the prospect of running the entire length of a country from coast to coast in a country that I’ve never visited before.
“I’m sure the landscape will be absolutely spectacular.also like to keep pushing my boundaries to see what’s actually possible and to show my pupils at school through self-belief, hard work and determination and never giving up when things get tough anything is possible.
“The children at school are right behind me and are a huge source of motivation.
"They’ve written me letters to take with me to open each day throughout the challenge.
"They are all very excited to hear all about it and I can’t wait to share the experience with them all on our return to school in September.”
Steve, who has been training since last year, added: “This could well be my toughest challenge to date as it will be the furthest distance I’ve ever run in one go and I’m sure the terrain and conditions will be tough going.
“I’ll be camping each night in the most stunning of environments - next to mountains, rivers, geysers and warm springs.
“I’m sure I’ll encounter problems.
"Keeping my feet in good condition throughout the challenge and running on very tired legs each day with little sleep will be tough.
"The weather could be very challenging and erupting volcanoes could also cause potential problems.
“I’m hoping to raise £5,000 for the Team Hill Charitable Trust to help us continue ‘Making a Difference’ both here in Oldham and for the children and young people in Uganda."
