Advan deployed to deliver safety messages in city centre

Date published: 22 June 2021

A new digital advertising van has been deployed in Manchester city centre to deliver important safety messages to the public.

The 'advan' will be placed in Piccadilly Gardens, displaying advice on drinking responsibly and personal safety, as well as featuring the images of people who are wanted by police.

For further reassurance, officers will be stationed by the van and will be giving away safety devices including bank card protectors to any visitors who want to take part in a survey.

The survey aims to provide GMP with information on the demographics of visitors to the area, as well as gathering their thoughts on the use of the van as a means of communication.

Sergeant Carol Devlin, of GMP's City of Manchester Division, said: "The digital advan is an important tool to spread safety messages among people in the city centre.

"As a major transport hub and meeting place, Piccadilly Gardens allows us to reach a large number of people at once.

"With the weather improving and lockdown easing, we expect greater numbers of people will begin to visit the city centre.

"We'd encourage them to stop by the advan and say hello.

"Our officers are always happy to speak to the public and answer any questions they may have."
