Rescue drama at Besom Hill

Date published: 08 March 2021

A multi-agency response was required to rescue a 28-year-old male walker who fractured his leg at Besom Hill, near Grains Bar in Oldham, last night (Sunday).

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team sent 15 members after they were asked for assistance by North West Ambulance Service and, due to the casualty's location and injury, NWAS Hazardous Area Response Team were also involved.

They were able to assist the crew at the scene using their advanced medical techniques.

The casualty was then packaged onto an OMRT stretcher and wheeled for the short, if not a very muddy journey, down to the ambulance for onward transport to hospital.

Said an OMRT spokesperson: “Thanks to all involved in another great example of inter-agency collaboration.

"We wish the casualty all the best for a speedy recovery.”

OMRT were involved for just over two hours.
