A former Prime Minister has added his voice to the chorus of congratulations for Oldham hero Frank Rothwell.

David Cameron has tweeted to thank Frank and all his supporters for the "amazing" achievement which has raised "incredible funds".

The 70-year-old grandfather has raised more than £646,000 after his 3,000-mile row for dementia research.

Frank, from Greenfield, completed the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, after rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK at the weekend.

The epic journey began in La Gomera in the Canary Islabde on December 12 and Frank crossed the finish line in Antigua on Saturday, taking him just 56 days to complete.

Mr Cameron added that Frank was "an inspiration and should be very proud"

Frank decided to take on the challenge to raise much-needed funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK, having witnessed the devastating impact of dementia with his brother-in-law, Roger, who sadly passed away with Alzheimer’s at the age of 62 during Frank’s challenge.

The funeral is on hold for Frank’s return home and the family is accepting donations in lieu of flowers.
