Despite Covid restrictions, Oldham’s generous spirited Mayor Councillor Ginny Alexander ensured Mrs Joan Reeves' 100th birthday was not forgotten.
She sent a special card and flowers to Joan, who lives at the Coppice Care Home in Oldham, with her best wishes.
Mrs Reeves was born Joan Toolen on January 24, 1921, into a Roman Catholic family of three brothers and three sisters in Collyhurst, Manchester.
She worked at Mather and Platt in her teenage years on the ammunition production line during World War Two.
At the age of 22 Joan married Alexander Reeves on August 28, 1943 at Saint Malachy's Church in Collyhurst, and they lived on Turkey Lane in Harpurhey.
After the war, she worked as a machinist from home and her husband Alexander worked in the coal mines at Don Capasso.
They had four children, three boys and a girl, and moved to Miles Platting and then Failsworth.
