These shoes are made for wearing!

Generous spirited rotarians of Oldham Metro, Saddleworth, Middleton and Heywood joined forces to collect around 2,000 pairs of shoes for a charity dedicated to helping schools and homeless groups.

Overall, 40 Rotary Clubs across the North West supported Shoe Aid and collected more than 10,000 pairs of shoes.

Shoe Aid cleans, disinfect and repacks the shoes at their Nottingham warehouse and distributes them to needy groups and other organisations to help relieve "shoe poverty."

Three million children go to school with wrong size or inadequate shoes and 320,000 homeless have the same issues of no shoes or shoes not fit for purpose.

And as a counterpoint, a million shoes are sent to landfill every week.

Frank Bolger, from Oldham Metro, said: “Our group of Rotary Clubs are proud to have taken part in this great project.

"We thank the public for their amazing support and all the volunteers who collected hundreds of pairs of shoes and delivered them to our collection point in Mossley.

“We hope once restrictions are eased to continue collections of good quality shoes.”

He added: “Shoe Aid have expressed their thanks to Rotary NW for their amazing efforts, which assure thousands of needy people will receive good quality footwear in the coming months.”
