Protesters gathered outside the factory on Greenacres Road, Waterhead
An Oldham factory was targeted by protesters yesterday, who say the manufacturer produces parts for military drones which have been used against Palestinians in Gaza.
Elbit Systems is an Israel-based international defence electronics company engaged in a wide range of programmes throughout the world.
Elbit Systems owns Ferranti Technologies based in Cairo House in Waterhead. Campaigners say that the Oldham factory is just one part of Britain’s military support for Israel.
Yesterday, a number of protesters gathered outside the factory displaying banners, and holding candles as part of a "winter peace vigil"
The protest was organised by the Oldham Peace and Justice campaign, along with the Manchester Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
A post on the group's Facebook page about the protest said: "It is easy to say we support human rights until we mention “We should boycott companies who are complicit in human right violations?”."
"It is easy to speak about human rights, until you mention, “What about the Human Rights of Palestinians?”. It is easy to look the other way when companies like Elbit Systems, profits from human right violations. We will not ignore these crimes."
Elbit is a major supplier to the Israeli defence forces and makes a range of weapons systems.
