Date published: 19 March 2020

Police investigating a rape in the city centre have release an image of a man they would like to speak to.

Shortly before 4am on Saturday, February 29, 2020, a 19-year old woman reported to police that she had been raped on Charles Street in Manchester.

Enquiries have established that the victim first met the offender during a night out in Manchester earlier that evening.

After leaving the club on Princess Street at around 3:30am on foot, the man raped her behind a car park off Charles Street.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

The woman is being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Constable Katy Shadwell, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “This woman was subjected to a horrendous attack that has left her feeling violated and understandably shaken.

"We are doing all we can to support her and find the man responsible.

“We have been following every line of enquiry available to us in helping to uncover the circumstances of this attack, and we are now appealing to the public to help us further with our investigation.

“We have been examining a number of CCTV opportunities, and as a result we are able to release this image in the hope of talking to the man pictured as part of our enquiries.

"If anyone has any information about the identity of this man, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information can contact police on 0161 856 4409 quoting incident number 533 of 29/02/2020.

Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
