A teenager has told Tameside Youth Court he was the one who attacked an elderly woman in Chadderton while she waited for a bus last month.

The 17-year old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted one count of attempted robbery yesterday and is due to be sentenced on Tuesday, September 25.

It was back on Thursday, August 16, when the victim was waiting for a bus on Turf Lane in Chadderton, two men approached her and tried to take her handbag.

However, the woman managed to fight back before the men started attacking her, she was dragged to the floor and left with multiple head injuries along with injuries to her knees and hands.

The 93-year old has since been discharged from hospital and is continuing to recover at home.

The next day a 17-year old boy handed himself into police before he was arrested and charged with attempted robbery.

The offender, who admitted the crime, has been granted an extension of his conditional bail but cannot enter the borough of Oldham.

If he does need to go into the town then he must see his solicitor.
