Gill at it again for rampant Greenfield

CRICKET: GREENFIELD'S class of 2012 made club history in the Versasteel Saddleworth and District Cricket League on Saturday.

Spearheaded by Chris Gill's third century of the season, a superb 135, the lads from Ladhill Lane smashed Friarmere for 336 for six.

It eclipsed the first team's previous-high score of 315 set in 1999 against Moorside.

Supporting Gill, who in May recorded the best individual knock of a Greenfield player, a magnificent 182, were Ryan Fitton (91) and Adam Hayes (46). In contrast, Friarmere could only manage 85 in reply. Josh Higgins claimed four for 37.

Meanwhile, at the top of the table, Bamford Fieldhouse are within touching distance of a fifth title in six years.

They go into next Sunday's final game of the season against nearest rivals Uppermill clutching an 18-point lead.

Bamford had to work hard for their latest league win at home to Stayley. Limited to 182 for six – Michael Stevens dug in for a solid 71 – they were thankful for Mel Austin's superb spell of seven for 48 in securing a 21-run win. Overseas amateur Usman Malvi scored 56 for the visitors.

Uppermill's defeat of Austerlands, at Nursery Fields, was more straightforward.

Andy McVeigh (101) and Michael Brooks (100) hit tons for the reigning champions in a daunting total of 243 for two. Austerlands were bowled out for 173.

Gerrie Snyman was a thorn in Droylsden's side at Oakfield.

Heyside's Namibian professional scored 103 out of 203 and skipper Nick Campbell weighed in with 52 – before grabbing six for 26, which included a hat-trick.

Glodwick, thanks to paid man Rehan Rafiq's seven for 18, maintained their fine end to the campaign with a seven-wicket defeat of Saddleworth.

Steven Howard's men crashed to 97 all out – their lowest score of the season.

Moorside duo Lee Warburton (six for 57) and pro Stephan Grobler (four 21) combined to dismiss Micklehurst for 115.

That was in reply to 189, which featured 84 from Richard Baines and a five-wicket haul from Andy Whitehead.

And Arshad Mahmood also took five wickets (for 52) as Hollinwood, chasing 111 for victory, beat Shaw by three wickets at Lime Lane.

DELPH sealed fifth place in the Drakes Huddersfield Premiership after beating Shelley on the final day of the season.
Bruce Cruse made 107 as Grant Jones' side posted 282-6.

They dismissed Shelley for 139 to leapfrog them in the table.

WOODHOUSES ended the Less Brewery Lancashire County League Division One campaign in 11th spot.
They beat Denton West after bowling out their opponents for 131 and earning a narrow one-wicket triumph.

And 24 hours later against Denton, Woodhouses – chasing 174 – were 36-1 when rain stopped play.
