Coach praises ROCS

NORTH Manchester Girls’ League outfit ROCS under-14s have been celebrating after winning the Knockout Cup final 1-0 against Heyside Angels.

Leah Bickerstaffe hit the target for ROCS, who are co-managed by James Fox and Marcus Bennett.

Alan Dawson, who helps to coach the side, said: “Everyone is delighted because it proves all the hard work is worth it.

“Leah has scored a lot of goals this season so it was nice for her to get the winner.”

ROCS want to start a new girls’ team, comprising of Year Seven and Eight children, next season.

ROCS under-16s overcame Moston Juniors 3-1 courtesy of a Megan Jackson brace and Danielle Pickett’s solitary strike. Abby Bennett struck four times in the under-14s’ 7-0 defeat of Droylsden Juniors.

Leah Bickerstaffe scored twice, and Alys Wild also got in on the act.


West head in right direction FAILSWORTH West under-11s are going for glory on three fronts.

The Manchester Youth and Mini-Soccer League side are second in their division, and through to the the semi-finals of the League Cup and Manchester FA County Cup, where they face Manchester Corinthians on April 10.

They were established by the late Billy Grogan in 2001.

Coach Lee Boyling has managed to mould a team with a winning mentality, despite losing a host of players to the club’s pro-academy.

During a busy schedule he has called upon ever-presents Jake Clyde, Ben Frost, Jack Stockwell, Josh Burrows, Max Yeo, Marley Coley, Bailey Povah, Klayton Coley, Jayden Thomas, Lucas Ironmonger, Regan Goodwin, Lee John and Marcel Chauhan.

Lee said: “What the boys have done is an inspiration. It would be to any club.

“We are looking forward to the semi-finals.”



OLDHAM Athletic under-15s enjoyed a 6-1 victory over Chadderton Park in the North Manchester Girls’ League. On the mark for Athletic were Feiruz Abdullahi with a hat-trick, Sophie James, Chloe Austin and Jessica Bevan.


HEYSIDE Angels under-16s defeated Uppermill 4-0 thanks to an Abbie Andrews double and further goals from Sarah Hardman and Jessica Cooke.
Taomi Hawksworth and Kelly Ward scored two goals apiece as the under-15s Angels Clarets beat Uppermill 6-0.

Hardman and Charlotte Lancaster also netted.

An Ella Milovanovic brace helped the under-14s see off Chadderton Park 4-1.

Kinsa Hmami and Natalie Giblin completed the scoring.

Ellie Doggett got both goals as the under-13s Angels Inter got the better of the Angels Clarets 2-0.
