Holroyd linked to coach job

OLDHAM RL chief Chris Hamilton is in the final stages of interviewing candidates for head coach.

Names in the frame include 56-year-old former Whitehaven boss Don Gailer and ex-Super League star Graham Holroyd, 20 years his junior, who played five games for Roughyeds this season while captain Neil Roden was injured.

Holroyd, who is also being associated with a vacancy at Rochdale, is known to be looking for an opening in coaching.

Gailer, an Australian with years of experience in youth and club rugby in Queensland, piloted Whitehaven to promotion in his first year in England, but has left the Recreation Ground in acrimonious circumstances.

Oldham, Dewsbury, Whitehaven and Rochdale are all looking for new head coaches with Rams expected to appoint this week.

Hamilton continues to say nothing about his candidates, however.

He said: “I won’t put myself under undue pressure by placing a timescale on it. The job will be filled when the time is right.

“It goes without saying, though, that we want to get it sorted as soon as we can.”

Oldham and Workington Town have confirmed that their elimination play-off clash on Sunday will kick-off at Derwent Park at 3pm.
