Lee relishing his licence to attack

PARK LIFE: KIERAN Lee conquered his personal demons against Bournemouth.

And the in-form right-back is confident Athletic can manage back-to-back wins in npower League One for the first time in a year.

The 22-year-old former Manchester United trainee accepted he made a blunder at Peterborough, allowing George Boyd to rob him of possession and take a 3-2 lead which Posh embellished with two further goals.

The attack-minded policy of Athletic's new management offers Lee — originally brought to the club as a midfielder — plenty of opportunities to pile forward.

Taking a chance to get into the penalty area, Lee was rewarded when the ball broke for him to fire home the equaliser against Bournemouth on Saturday.

One point swiftly turned to three when Oumare Tounkara netted three minutes later.

The Tameside-born player is now turning his attentions towards victory at second-placed Brighton.

"The players always had belief we could win the Bournemouth game and that's what we managed to do," said Lee, an ever-present so far this season.

"With my goal, I just saw the ball go long and ran into the box. It bounced into my path and ended up in the back of the net.

"This year we are a bit more attacking and have more freedom. I like to get forward anyway, so hopefully I will get a few more.

"The belief is there for us now. We had a bad result at Peterborough and went some way to putting it right against Bournemouth.

"To win it in the last 10 minutes made it even better for us.

"We will keep going at Brighton and hopefully pick up another win."

Lee is now Athletic's joint-top scorer this season, having bagged two goals along with Tounkara, Dale Stephens, Dean Furman and Chris Taylor.

Having forged a promising partnership down the right flank with midfielder Ritchie Jones, Lee is happy to stick with his current role.

"Last year I didn't really have a set position," he said.

"This year, full-back is my position and I enjoy playing there. If I can chip in with a goal now and again, that is a bonus."
