FAILSWORTH Olympian Dorothy Shirley will talk about her past sporting experiences around the world, comparing the 1960 games in Rome, where she won a silver medal in the high jump, with the modern day games during the talk at Royton Local History Society on November 9.

The event, at Downey House, Church Street, Royton, starts at 7.30pm. Members free, visitors £1.50 including free refreshments.

SONGS, music and dance will fill Trinity Methodist Church, Royton, on Saturday, November 14. Pupils of St Joseph’s Primary School will perform a concert at the church from 2pm in aid of the BBC Children in Need Appeal. PARENTS, families and friends in Oldham are invited to a special service to remember babies and children who have died or been lost. The inter-denominational service, organised by Oldham Bereavement Support Services, will take place at St Anne’s Church, Royton, at 2pm on Sunday, November 8.


DONATIONS of new or excellent condition second-hand toys are being accepted at the Bethesda Church as part of its annual Christmas Toy Appeal for the children of Royton. Toys can be dropped off at the Dogford Road Church’s charity shop from 10am to 2pm Tuesday-Thursday.


FIREWORKS will light the sky over Royton Cricket Club on Sunday, November 8, during a Community Bonfire. Open from 4pm till late, the event will also feature music, food and a funfair.
