Super Serg steals show

SERGIO Aguero stole the show as his clinical hat-trick in the 3-0 win at Chelsea meant he has now scored 12 goals in his last dozen Premier League games for Manchester City.

The 27–year–old has missed out on the shortlist for PFA Player of the Year and has never won a personal award during his time in England – despite now being just one goal shy of 100 top-flight strikes, having only made 146 appearances.

But for Aguero, it is team success which is of utmost interest as he looks to keep his own form going for the remainder of the season.

HAPPY

After his City side maintained their four-point lead over neighbours United in the race to secure Champions League football next season, Aguero said: “I’m very happy with the three goals, but most importantly with the victory.

“The three points were very important.

“I will try to keep it up, to keep scoring goals and try my best.

“The objective is now to finish in the top four and then in the Champions League try and do our best.

“We still have a few games ahead of us. I’m sure I can reach 100 goals and I will try on Tuesday when we have an important game (against Newcastle).”

City boss Manuel Pellegrini hailed Aguero as one of the best players in the Premier League following his treble.

Aguero struck twice from counter–attacks, with the impressive Kevin De Bruyne shining on his return to Chelsea, before tucking home a penalty after Thibaut Courtois was dismissed for fouling Fernandinho inside the box.

“It is strange that Sergio has played so many years here and has never been the best player in the Premier League,” he said. “I think he is really great. I think in the Premier League we have very good players, but without doubt Kun is one of the best, if not the best.

“It was a great victory and a very good performance, very important not just to win but to play the way we did.”
