THE two late goals that won the game for Manchester City at Watford really were of exceptional quality.

The finish from Yaya Toure was unbelievable and then the build-up, cross and finish from Sergio Aguero for the winner was sheer brilliance. When you’ve got players like those two in your team, you’re always going to be in with a chance of turning a worrying situation around.

There’s not just Yaya and Sergio, though. There’s a host of players in the City team who can change games almost in an instant.

One thing that wasn’t mentioned much over the weekend was the quality of the corner-kick that led to Watford’s goal. The way the ball was whipped in to the box with sheer pace and power made it almost impossible to defend. Once the ball flew past the first City defender it was always set to cause a problem.

Now City are gearing up for a week of cup action. Tomorrow night sees the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final, and that’s not going to be easy at Everton. They are a really strong side under Roberto Martinez.

Everton are probably under-achieving, given their squad. They never seem to get many injuries, something that helps with consistency.

It’s Norwich away on Saturday then, in the FA Cup. I never played in a cup final, but I went to two. I sat with the Forest fans at the League Cup final when Latics lost in 1990, but I’ll never forget my first visit to Wembley in 1968.

I was just a young player at Latics at the time, and the club paid for us all to go to London for the weekend.

We went on the Friday and watched Cliff Richard in concert at night, then we went to see the FA Cup final the next afternoon when Jeff Astle scored for West Brom as they beat Everton 1-0.

I just remember being amazed at the sheer size of the stadium. It was a phenomenal place back then when it was packed to the rafters.
