MANCHESTER United’s Louis van Gaal is a manager under increasing pressure.

Having seen his team exit the Champions League at the group stage, Van Gaal watched in dismay as United lost 2-1 at lowly Bournemouth last week. Though United are fourth in the table, six points behind surprise leaders Leicester, pundits and fans alike have been scathing of the team’s style.

Van Gaal is the new favourite to lose his job following the exit of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

The news this week that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola will be available next summer will only have made the Dutchman feeling more uncomfortable.

Van Gaal’s contract ends with the 2016/17 season, but further disenchantment and unsatisfactory results could force the board’s hand - though neighbours Cityarea also keen on Guardiola.

It also emerged this week that United have made Bayern striker Robert Lewandoski their top transfer target next summer. Van Gaal has been frustrated by United’s lack of fire power and sees Lewandoski as the man to lead the front line.

United will tomorrow entertain a Norwich team facing a battle against relegation. The Canaries are third from bottom of the table and have already conceded 18 goals away from home.
