Aguero on a mission

MANCHESTER City hot-shot Sergio Aguero is desperate to be ready for tomorrow’s crunch Barclays Premier League visit of Liverpool.
The Blues’ leading scorer has missed the last seven games due to an injury sustained while on duty with Argentina at the start of last month.
After scoring five goals in 20 minutes against Newcastle United and hitting peak form, Aguero has been on the sidelines ever since.
However, having returned to full training this week, he is building up his fitness ahead of the visit of the Merseysiders as the Blues’ list of injured stars steadily improves.
“I do hope I can play in this game,” said Aguero. “I’m doing everything in my power to get to the match in top condition.
FRUSTRATING
“It’s been a frustrating time. Obviously, the game against Newcastle was special because it’s not every week you get to score five goals in one game.
“The only other occasion I remember scoring five in a single match was when I was 12!”
Aguero admits it will feel odd if he comes up against his former City team-mate James Milner – though the Liverpool midfielder is also racing against time to face the table-topping Blues.
“I read that, unfortunately, James suffered an injury playing for England,” added Aguero.
“I hope he’s able to recover. He’s a great player, though it will be odd to see him wearing another team’s colours.
“It should be a great game. Jürgen Klopp has come in (as Liverpool manager) and he’s a great addition to the Premier League.
“I’ve stated before that it’s a good thing that the best players and managers come to England – it makes it one of the most competitive tournaments in the whole world.”
City supporters will also be hoping to see maestro David Silva return to action tomorrow following a spell out injured.
Colin Bell, a Blues’ midfield legend of days gone by, has given Spanish star Silva the ultimate compliment by claiming he is one of the best players to ever play for City and is ‘irreplaceable’.
“David Silva would walk into any City team,” said Bell, who clocked up nearly 500 appearances for City between 1966 and 1979.
“He is in my personal greatest all-time XI and is just fantastic to watch. When he’s on the ball, he makes the whole team tick and we don’t look the same side without him.
“He has an incredible awareness and is the perfect player for the modern game.”
