IT’S a funny old game, football, as England legend Jimmy Greaves once said. How true those words are at the moment
Who would have thought, fewer than two months into the season, that Jose Mourinho’s job would be hanging by a thread and Jamie Vardy would be topping the league’s goal scoring charts on 11?
But that is where we are - and bookies haven’t been slow to notice.
Chelsea boss Mourinho is the 4-9 favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job. Yes, at the club he led to Premier League title success just last season.
As for Vardy, his strike rate for Leicester has been nothing short of sensational - on target in his last eight games and four goals clear of his nearest rivals.
Vardy is 9-2 to land the Golden Boot but, despite absence through injury, Manchester City star Sergio Aguero remains the favourite at 11-4, with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez 7-1.
City are evens to win the title with Arsenal 13-8 and faltering Manchester United at 10s.
STRICTLY Come Dancing and X Factor fans can see their programmes starting to take shape as the wheat is sorted from the chaff.
Most of the no-hopers have been jettisoned now and Strictly has a hot favourite in Jay McGuinness, who served notice of his intentions with an amazing jive. He’s now a best-priced 4-5 to lift the glitter ball at Christmas.
