Home-grown trio in final showdown

OLDHAM-born father and son Mike and George Ford are plotting a path to Aviva Premiership glory tomorrow.

Bath coach Mike and the club’s fly-half star George will face the might of Saracens at a packed-out Twickenham. George has enjoyed a sparkling 2015 so far, making England’s No.10 jersey his own with some sparkling and creative performances in the Six Nations Championship.

Mike has gone from coaching his home-town rugby league club to passing on his knowledge with England and Ireland rugby union sides, to guiding Bath to the verge of the holy grail of this country’s domestic game.

Another Oldhamer, Kyle Eastmond, will join George in hoping to down Saracens and boost his chances of securing a place in England coach Stuart Lancaster’s World Cup squad this autumn.

Bath has lit up the domestic game this season through a thrilling attacking approach - one that has seen them arrive at Twickenham following a Premiership campaign overflowing with tries.

Bath posted 79 touchdowns in 22 league games and one play–off tie this season — 12 of those in two home matches against Leicester — as players like Watson, Jonathan Joseph, Eastmond, Semesa Rokoduguni and Matt Banahan have consistently cut loose.

With Saracens boasting statistically the Premiership's best defence this term, tomorrow’s final has been billed as a genuine clash of styles and an intriguing contest that even the bookmakers can scarcely call.
