‘Razor’ looks sharp

BOXING: RONNIE ‘Razor’ Heffron will aim to cut Kevin McCauley down to size when they go head-to-head on Saturday.

The 20-year-old is on the undercard of Tony Bellew versus Ovill McKenzie at Bethnal Green’s York Hall.

Heffron, one of the leading lights in Anthony Farnell’s stable, has won all four bouts since turning professional and capped off 2010 in fine style by knocking out Wayne Downing after just 45 seconds in Liverpool.

Halesowen-based McCauley (31) has won nine fights, lost 21 and drawn three in his professional career.

The 5ft 9in orthodox has never stopped an opponent, but has been on the receiving end on three occasions.

He was last in action on February 5, when he suffered a points defeat at the hands of Jonson McClumpha at Brentwood Leisure Centre in Essex.

Farnell said: “Ronnie’s preparation has been brilliant.

“He is focused on the task ahead of him and is determined to make it five wins in a row.”

Heffron’s sparring partner Frankie Gavin, the 2007 World Amateur champion, is on Saturday’s card, as is Jamie Cox.

Bellew puts his Commonwealth light-heavyweight crown on the line against McKenzie.

They are joined on the bill by Larry Olubamiwo and John McDermott, who go head-to-head for the Southern Area Heavyweight Championship.

Vinny Mitchell, Bradley Skeete, Ahmet Patterson, Billy Morgan and Freddie 'Luke' Turner complete the line-up.


JACK Ellender produced a superb display despite a night of drama at the Boxing Gym in Birmingham.
Representing the Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre, Jack was ready to fight Jamie Edwards in the National Schoolboy quarter-finals when a member of the audience suffered a heart attack and needed medical attention.

The boxers waited in their dressing rooms for 45 minutes until they were cleared for action.

Ellender dominated his opponent with power-punching and slick movement in the first round, but the bout had to restart when it became apparent that the judges’ electronic scorecards were not working.

Unfazed, Ellender eased to victory over three rounds.
