Alex eyes place at Games

SHAW teenager Alex Walker aims to make a big impact at the XII World Organisation of Martial Arts Athletes Games later this year.

Walker took part in trials for the Great Britain team at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, and is set to head back to the steel city later this month to undergo another examination.

The 16-year-old Bury Grammar School student gained his 1st Dan blackbelt kick- boxing qualification in December last year after an intense three-hour grading session.

He now wants to showcase his skills on the world stage.

The WOMAA games, which is to be held at the University of Wales in Cardiff on August 19, is an international event which displays various types of martial arts expertise.

A student of 6th Dan Dave Terry, at the Domana Elica Martial Arts Academy (DEMAA), Walker has also trained in Ju Jitsu, Thai Boxing and a form of weaponry known as Kobudo for the last four years.
