Too little, too late

IT WAS a case of too little, too late as Oldham RUFC ‘A’ were beaten 29-17 at home by Sedgley Park.
Oldham conceded two tries and a penalty are they trailed 13-0 at the break having also lost centre Paul Waterhouse with a dislocated shoulder.
Park kicked a penalty early in the second half to extend their advantage before Oldham launched their recovery.
Nick Hackman got Oldham on to the scoresheet with a fine individual try as he jinked his way past three attempted tackles before touching down between the posts. Rhys Jones added the conversion.
Will Mellor then made an interception before sprinting 75 metres to the try line and suddenly Oldham were only 16-12 adrift with the outcome suddenly in the balance.
Park sealed victory with two tries after 70 and 73 minutes, which together with another penalty, saw them establish an unassailable 29-12 lead.
Oldham’s third try came in the dying seconds when Matty Collins took the ball from the back of a scrum and forced his way over the line.
EXTRA ‘A’ lost 48-0 at Glossop thirds as they needed to summon a number of veterans to make up the numbers such was the depleted nature of their side.
Oldham held Glossop for the opening quarter of the match, but then conceded four tries in the remainder of the half to trail 20-0 at the break.
The tale of woe continued in the second period as Glossop secured an emphatic victory.
And to add insult to injury, Oldham also picked up a number of injuries.
The scrums had to be uncontested after prop John Lowe hurt his neck while Warren Clarke broke a rib and Andy Bearpark came off taking a knock to his hip.
