Adams a star in Australia for Great Britain Police

THE British team had a tough time at the recent Police World Cup in Australia, but at least Danny Adams came away from the experience smiling.

The 19-year-old (pictured, right), who turned out for BARLA Great Britain under-23s earlier this year, was the youngest player in the whole competition.

One of two Saddleworth Rangers players to turn out for the police team along with Danny Atherton, the Rochdale officer was also the only member of his team to be named in the select World XVII, made up of the tournament's best performers.

"It was brilliant and a once in a lifetime experience," said Adams, who spent a month down under.

"We were playing against teams of a different standard to us, but when we played against Australia for example all the neutrals were cheering for us which was great."

As a result of the tough level of competition, it wasn't the most successful of times on the pitch for the British side. The team beat Papua New Guinea 18-16 but were defeated by Australia (twice), New Zealand and eventual winners Fiji.

The Brits signed off the tour, which also took in development work and a number of friendlies, with a 18-12 loss to Cairns.

ANTHONY Morrison of Saddleworth Rangers will hope to get the chance to show what he can do tonight as Great Britain Community Lions under-18s take on the visiting Australian Institute of Sport team at the Rams Stadium in Dewsbury (7.30pm kick off).

Morrison, who has first team experience at Shaw Hall Bank Road, wasn't in the GB side recently beaten 14-12 by their France counterparts in Montpellier, a game that was decided by a disputed late penalty.

But he is in contention for a spot tonight, having been named in a squad of 26.
