GREAT EFFORT . . . Olivia Green (second from left) won team bronze in Spain
SADDLEWORTH starlet Olivia Green, Stroud's Zoe Davison and Warwick's Georgina Mitchell claim a brilliant team bronze medal when representing the Great Britain girls' at the Under-19 European Cup tournament in Sant Boi, Spain.
The girls' competition started in the pool where all six British athletes - Davison, Green, Mitchell, Cholesbury's Alex Bousfield, Weymouth's Zoe Gowers and Bolton le Sands' Emma Whitaker - finished inside the top nine positions.
In the fencing salle, Green, who claimed victory at the GB Youth International recently, secured a level fence of 16 victories, while Whitaker, who enjoyed success at the Portuguese Under-17 National Championships at the beginning of April, picked up 15 victories and 17 defeats.
It meant all six Brits were well placed after two disciplines, with Mitchell leading from Davison and Bousfield, Gowers and Green, who were all inside the top 10 too.
A thrilling laser-run followed, with Green recording the eighth-quickest time of the discipline to move up to seventh in the overall standings and finish as the top British athlete.
The following day saw the mixed relay taking place with five all-British teams - including Green and George Budden - competing well.
The mixed relay was run as a modern triathlon, meaning it was straight into the laser-run.
Again, differences between the teams were marginal, but it was Green and Budden who finished as the top British team in fourth, narrowly missing out a podium position.
However, Green did eventually gain a superb podium finish when the overall team results were announced.
