STUNNING DEBUT . . . Danny Wright
DANNY Wright clearly intends to move as swiftly as possible up the British boxing rankings.
Failsworth-based Wright made a stunning debut in the pro ranks just four weeks ago, stopping previously unbeaten Hungarian tough guy Krisztian Kovacs in the first round at the Bolton Whites Hotel.
Now he is ready for fight number two, against Middlesbrough opponent Ross Jameson on Saturday in a four-round light-welterweight contest at the Victoria Warehouse in Trafford Park.
Wright (pictured, above) told the Chronicle: "I can't wait now. Hopefully it's going to be another explosive performance.
"I really didn't expect my debut fight to be over so quick to be honest.
"Don't forget Kovacs was unbeaten and had stopped his previous opponent, but once he'd been caught, it was over and done with inside two minutes.
'EXPERIENCE'
"It was a different experience than in the amateurs, but once you're actually in the ring it's just the same.
"It was an unbelievable experience walking into the ring, too, with everyone shouting my name.
"It was a relief, too, though. I just wanted to make sure I got the job done, but I did love every minute of it."
Former amateur star Wright is still in tip-top condition following his dream debut, and will be clearly fancied to double his win tally against Jameson, a man who has won one and lost three fights in the paid ranks so far.
Wright, who trains with Ben Lancaster in Middleton, added: "I've just continued my debut camp really.
"I've had some great sparring with Tommy Coyle at Steve Wood's gym in Astley, but as long as I just keep making improvements along the way, picking up the right fights at the right time, that's all I'm looking to do at the moment.
"Hopefully then in two or three years I'll be then looking at possible English and British title shots.
"It's important I thank Ben. We've trained all summer pretty much.
"I'd known for a while I wanted to turn pro as I had no more amateur ambitions.
"It's gone so well so far so I just need to keep building on this now."
