Young Lions look to impress

ATHLETIC chiefs hope local football supporters turn out in their numbers tonight as England's talented under-20s team arrive in town to take on the Netherlands at SportsDirect.com Park (7pm kick-off).

The Young Lions tackle the first of three fixtures which form part of an exciting four-nations tournament, which is taking place between tonight and Monday.

After tonight's match, the cream of England's young crop will then take on Germany at the John Smith's Stadium in Huddersfield on Friday, before the USA provide the opposition at Rochdale's Crown Oil Arena on Monday. All three games kick-off at 7pm.

The England under-20s' assistant coach, Paul Williams, will take charge of the matches after head coach Aidy Boothroyd stepped up to oversee the under-21s in Gareth Southgate's absence.

"It's been great working with Aidy and the under-20s this season, so to take on the team for these games over the next few months is a big honour and privilege for me," said former Nottingham Forest and Southampton coach Williams.

"We have a very talented group of players in the under-20s this season, and it's been fantastic to work with them so far. It's an exciting time to be involved for both them as young footballers and us as staff members."

Only the North Stand and family and community section of the Jimmy Frizzell stand are planned to be open for tonight's game.

Entry costs just £3 for adults and £1.50 (concessions).

Fans can pay on the turnstile tonight, though wheelchair users are advised to buy tickets in advance to secure their place.
