PASS it on: the Failsworth School team who will be taking part in the Olympic torch relay
A TEENAGE team from Failsworth will truly be the pride of Oldham after being given a once-in-a-lifetime chance to carry the Olympic torch.
Ten sporty pupils from Failsworth School will run as a group, sharing the responsibility of carrying the iconic flame when it comes to Oldham on Sunday, June 24.
They are one of only 10 groups in Britain to be awarded the Team Torchbearer honour by Olympic partner Lloyds TSB.
Year 11 pupils Lauren Lawson, Hannah Turnbull, David Walsh and Danny Wright will lead the way.
They’ll be joined by Matthew Wilson, Jack Taylor-Oldham and Leanne Jackson from Year 10, Megan Donegan and Matthew Slattery from Year eight and Year-seven pupil Hannah Barron.
The terrific 10 students were all selected for their active involvement in school sport as well as their dedication to the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect.
The pupils will carry the flame for about 600 yards, with each getting a chance to hold the torch.
As a keepsake for generations to come, the school will also be given a replica torch to mark the moment in borough history.
