A CONVICTED murderer, whose last known address was Oldham, is on the run from prison.
Darren Jackson (51) absconded from HMP Sudbury yesterday morning.
Jackson, orginally from Burnley, was jailed for life in 1986 for the murder of mother of three Gill Ellis (29), who he stamped to death in December, 1984, after she was robbed on her way home from a Chistmas party in Burnley.
Muggers stole Gill's handbag as she walked across a recreation ground to her home where her family was sleeping.
As she lay unconscious, glue-sniffing Jackson, then 21, stamped on Gill's stomach with his size 11 Doc Marten boots, causing horrendous injuries from which she died.
Fences
He was jailed for life in 1986 after he was found guilty of murder following a trial at Manchester Crown Court.
In August, 1997, Jackson escaped from Ranby Prison in Nottinghamshire after he and a fellow inmate cut through two perimeter fences.
He went on the run for three days before giving himself up after he was spotted on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal in Colne.
Jackson, 6ft 2in, was called Froggy 'by friends because of his long legs.
He had previously been sentenced to 12 months youth custody for grievous bodily harm to an 18-year-old boy by kicking him in the stomach causing liver damage.
The attack happened in the same recreation ground where he attacked Gill.
Police describe him as having short cropped grey hair and a tribal tattoo on his wrist.
Anyone with information as to his whereabouts should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
