AVRO FC has confirmed its involvement in the Whitebank Stadium development.

The club says it includes land to the north of the existing social club to be upgraded to form an additional grass training pitch.

The works planned by the council would replace those intended to be carried out at Higher Lime, Limehurst Village, which will no longer be used by AVRO FC.

A statement from the club said: "It is therefore expected that Whitebank Stadium would be sufficient to accommodate the club's current and future needs.

"AVRO FC has worked closely with both the Football Association and the North West Counties League representatives who are supportive of the proposals and have further confirmed that the move will enable AVRO FC to apply for promotion into step six of the football pyramid and fulfil the club's ambitions detailed in its development plan. It is expected that Oldham Rugby will continue to operate from Whitebank Stadium in some capacity.

"Both AVRO FC, the council and Oldham Rugby are also continuing to hold discussions with various funding bodies and it is expected that further positive announcements, to coincide with further planning applications will be released in due course."

AVRO FC chairman Robert Fuller added: "Along with local residents, AVRO FC are looking forward to making the stadium a real community hub, working with Oldham Rugby and other sporting organisations that currently operate in the area.

"If the initial planning application is approved, it is hoped that works will commence immediately, with the artificial pitch operation from early 2017. AVRO FC will continue to operate from the Lancaster Club site until this time."
