Oldham Business Edge September 2016.
THE latest edition of Oldham Business Edge magazine has just been published and is free to subscribers.
The quarterly magazine is produced by the Oldham Evening Chronicle and distributed to influential business and professional readers, with an increased circulation of 3,000.
The autumn edition's front cover features Verity Ellidge, commercial property negotiator at Ryder & Dutton. Verity talks about her commercial property work and explains how tenants and landlords can maximise their positions and reap the rewards if they are fully prepared for negotiations.
Another feature looks at the financial specialists at Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers. Richard Eastwood, a partner at Pearson, heads the team of independent financial advisers who provide advice, strategies and wealth management services to private individuals and businesses.
Elsewhere the magazine visits Pastel UK and Ireland, an IT firm which develops enterprise resource planning software systems. Managing director Amanda Swales describes how Oldham College has helped her find an apprentice who is playing a key part in the firm's growth.
The story illustrates how employers looking to recruit or boost their existing staff's skills can benefit from the college's vocational training services. Hundreds of young people recently left school, college or university this summer and are now considering their options including apprenticeships, traineeships and other opportunities with local businesses.
To keep their own skills updated, tutors at Oldham College have also spent time on-location with firms over the summer. In one example, the magazine reports how a tutor has worked with a firm specialising in customer research, compliance audits and staff training services.
Another Oldham organisation that can help employers find candidates for vacancies is housing provider First Choice Homes Oldham. Employment adviser Sarah Hall explains her work connecting job-seekers and employers. Elsewhere, the magazine reports on a graduate career programme with Ultimate Products, a Chadderton-based firm which develops and sells well-known branded household products to retailers across 27 countries.
Other features include reports about specialist crane and lifting equipment supplier GGR Group, which recently received a Queen's Award for Enterprise in recognition of exports; and on Clive Newton, joint owner of Emanuel Whittaker construction and refurbishment company.
There are also photographs of business award nights and social events.
