OLDHAM Coliseum Theatre is in the running to win the UK's Most Welcoming Theatre Award 2016.

The UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide awards to honour outstanding achievement in theatre throughout the United Kingdom.

The Most Welcoming Theatre Award is voted for by the public and provides audiences opportunity to celebrate their theatre and all they do for communities.

Oldham Coliseum received a Customer Service Excellence Badge from TripAdvisor this year.

Asset

Now more than 130 years old, the theatre has been entertaining people from Oldham and beyond for generations and has cemented itself as a creative educational asset to the town through its extensive work with schools.

Kevin Shaw, artistic director and chief executive, said: "We work hard at the Coliseum to ensure our audiences have the best possible experience. The Most Welcoming Theatre Award asks people to vote for us and show people across the country how friendly and welcoming we are."

The winners of this year's award will be decided by a public vote via uktheatre.org/vote with a deadline of September 19.

In 2015 the winner of UK's Most Welcoming Theatre was the Theatre Royal, Newcastle.

This year there are 241 venues across the country competing to take home the coveted title.

The 12 regional and national winners of the vote will be announced on September 29. The overall winner of the award will be announced at the UK Theatre Awards Ceremony on Sunday, October 9 at London's Guildhall.

The UK Theatre Awards are supported by Smooth Radio, UK Theatre Insurance, White Light, Theatre Tokens, John Good and Harbottle & Lewis. For more information and to book tickets, visit uktheatre.org/awards.
