APPEAL for information: John Kershaw is looking for information about his father's Oldham Scholars Sports Association badge
A SON is appealing for information about a sports badge which formerly belonged to his Oldham-born father.
John Kershaw, 69, found the artefact - a blue and silver crest-shaped badge with finer detailing at its centre - several years ago among the possessions of his late father, Harold Kershaw.
But the piece, from the Oldham Scholars Sports Association, was put to one side and has since been gathering dust until two months ago.
The badge is hallmarked Birmingham 1911, when Harold would have been 13 years old.
John, from Blackpool, said: "It has intrigued me over the years but it got put to the back of the drawer.
"Recently I started looking at it and tried searching Google but haven't got very far.
"I have now cleaned it up and our jewellers tell me it is silver with enamel."
Harold was born in 1898 in Glodwick Road, near the Brown Cow public house where his mother was licensee.
Anyone with information can contact Mr Kershaw on 01253 764230.
