CAPES, masks and spandex all made an appearance when a fundraising team of babies in Oldham summoned up their superhero powers to help save babies' lives.

The tots dressed up as superheroes in a "sensathon" class, at the Uppermill Methodist Church, for baby charity Tommy's, which funds research into pregnancy problems and provides pregnancy health information to parents.

The babies did sponsored superhero challenges, as part of a nationwide aim to raise £375,000 from baby sensory classes across the country, which will help fund Tommy's four research centres.

Pioneers

Becky Campbell, franchisee of Oldham Baby Sensory, told the Chronicle: "This Superhero Sensathon is an enormously fun event that encourages parents and pre-schoolers to tap in to their inner Batman and raise funds for the research work Tommy's pioneers into the causes and prevention of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature births."

Jane Brewin, chief executive of Tommy's, added: "Sensathon is a great way for mums and dads to involve their little ones. Tommy's relies on the generosity and hard work of supporters like Baby Sensory to continue pioneering research to prevent pregnancy complications."
