TRIBUTES have been paid to a 12-year-old girl from Shaw who died after being found unresponsive in a caravan at a holiday park.

Paige Daughtry, a Royton and Crompton School pupil, was on a family trip to the Cala Gran Holiday Park, Fleetwood, when she was discovered.

She was treated by paramedics before being taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where she died a short time later. Police were called by the ambulance service to the holiday park at 9.40pm.

Her father, Stuart Daughtry, had posted a family photo of their trip on Facebook only a few hours prior to her death.

A spokesman from Lancashire Constabulary said: "The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are continuing.

"A post mortem examination to try to establish the cause of death will take place in due course."

A spokesman for Cala Gran Holiday Park said: "Emergency services were called to the park on Monday evening to tend to a 12-year-old female guest who later passed away. This is a tragic incident, and our heartfelt condolences go to the girl's family, who we have offered our support to."

Cody Lachey (32) told the Chronicle he knew Paige as his relative lives near her family on Oak Street.

He said: "It's a sad state of affairs. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

"She was a happy, smiling kid. She was always a polite, pleasant kid.

"She was always happy and playing with her friends.

"It's so, so sad. I'm gutted.

"I can only imagine what the family are going through.

"She had everything to live for. I'm deeply shocked."

Paige's grandfather, John Delaney, described her as a "beautiful" and "happy go lucky" on Facebook. He wrote: "We can't describe how we felt, our hearts have been broken there is nothing more I can say, except a part of us has been ripped away from us.

"Paige our sweet baby girl we will never forget you, as long as we live and every day we think of you you will be alive in our hearts night and God bless sweet, you will be up there teaching every one to sing so till we meet again sleep tight."

Jen Beverley wrote on Facebook: "I am so sorry for your loss of a beautiful daughter, sister and granddaughter. RIP Paige."
