POLICE are appealing for information after a 65-year-old woman was left with a fractured skull following a burglary in Ashton.
Sometime between 12.40am and 2.40am yesterday, two men wearing balaclavas forced their way into a property on Neale Avenue and demanded money.
The woman was attacked by both men who were armed with metal bars causing injuries to her arms, a fractured skull and multiple facial fractures.
The men searched the property before fleeing the scene empty handed.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment where she remains in a stable condition.
Vile
Detective Inspector David Loughlin, of GMP's Tameside borough, said: "This was a vile attack on a vulnerable woman who was alone at home.
"She has been left in hospital being treated for some nasty injuries which could have been even worse.
"We would urge anyone who may have seen anybody acting suspiciously in the area or knows anything that can aid our investigation to come forward and help us catch those responsible for this attack."
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
