WILLIAM FEDDEN, a Thornham St James Primary School pupil, has won a McDonald's UK competition to attend the Olympics in Rio
A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy is swapping Royton for Rio, after winning an exclusive competition which will see him at the Olympic Games this summer.
Not only will William Fedden attend the games but he will also participate in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games that takes place on August 5, which will be watched by billions of television viewers around the world.
The Olympics Kids competition, organised by McDonald's UK, asked parents to capture their child's passion for the Games by recreating a famous Olympian's pose.
William was picked at random for his impression of World Record holder Usain Bolt's famous 'lightning' pose, and is one of 100 children from 18 countries to have won a trip to Rio de Janeiro.
William, a pupil at Thornham St James Primary School, will be travelling to Rio with his mum for an action-packed all inclusive five night stay - and he cannot wait.
He said: "I can't believe I won! I'm really excited for Rio, and looking forward to seeing the Olympic Village and watching the Olympic flame being lit."
William's trip includes five nights' accommodation at a 4* hotel in Rio de Janeiro, tickets to the swimming, judo and tennis events, plus other activities McDonald's has lined up.
William's mum Joanne Pilkington added: "It's such an amazing prize, we're still in shock! Going to Rio is a once in a lifetime opportunity but for William to also play a part in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games is just incredible."
